While the Response Cluster Meeting/Coordinative Meeting for the DRRM Summit was on going last January 20, a Team from the Geosciences Division  (GSD) composed of Geologist Abbygail B. Soco and Cartographer Benjamin L. Sanaani, was also undertaking simultaneous ocular assessment and documentation within the City to monitor and determine the extent of the effect of geohazards brought about by the continuous raingfall.

The assessment team disclosed that less than one meter-high inundation affected some of the low lying barangay areas in Zamboanga City during and after the consecutive and prolonged heavy rainfall that were attributed to the lack and/or insufficient drainage and water overflowing along unprotected and non-leveed portions of different rivers and creeks in the city.  The flood prone areas or barangays affected were the following:  Pilar Street, Barangay Zone IV; Zone 6, Barangay Talon-Talon; Barigon, Barangay Tugbungan; Barangay San Roque and Martha and Nieves Drives, Barangay San Jose Gusu, Zamboanga City.
