Two geologists of the Geosciences Division were recently invited as resource persons in the one-day Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment Training hosted by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) through the Office of Civil Defense Regional Office Region IX (OCD IX) last March 2, 2017 at Hotel Alindahaw, Pagadian City. Supervising Geologist Kristalyn Jarical and Abbygail Soco, Geologist II, discussed Landslides, Floods, Land Subsidence and Coastal Geohazards in Region IX respectively, to participants and fellow resource persons from other national government agencies such as DOST IX, DILG IX, DSWD IX, NEDA IX, PHIVOLCS and PAGASA.
The said training was participated by the members of the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (LDRRMOs) of the 26 municipalities and selected Local Chief Executives (LCEs) of the Province of Zamboanga del Sur. Participants were trained on the process of evaluating hazard’s level of risk given the degree of exposure and vulnerability in a specific area as well as capacitating them on how to predict and analyze the possible impacts of a particular hazard to the local populace that will serve as a basis in determining the appropriate level of response actions from the national level government agencies down to the local government units.
