Information Officer Emma Rodelie M. Deverala bagged this year's coveted titles for Best Presenter and Best Policy Paper in the recently concluded Annual MGB Technical Forum last November November-6-9, 2018 held in Koronadal, South Cotabato. Dubbed as "Mining and Geological Studies are Integral Elements of Socio-Economic Development, Environmental Protection and Enhancement, Human Safety and Disaster Preparedness", MGB-XII graciously hosted the event at Paraiso Verde spearheded by MGB-XII Regional Director, Engr. Constancio A. Paye.
Deverala was among the eight (8) presenters for Policy Papers among the total number of thirty-two (32) participants, twenty-four (24) of whom were Technical Paper Presenters. A scholar of Master in Public Management major in Rural Development of the DENR ran by the Development Academy of the Philippines, she presented her Action Plan and Project (APP) paper (co-authored by fellow scholar of the Department of Agrarian Reform, Roie-lee Cataluña) entitled "Institutionalization of the Convergence Area Development Plan: An Engagement Tool for the Poverty Alleviation of the Subanen Indigenous Cultural Community of Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte". During
her presentation, she highlighted several recommnedations emphasizing the role of responsible mining in the countryside development and the challenge of the industry and the MGB as the regulating government agency in ensuring that the implementation of the Social Developmnent Management Program/Community Development Program of mining companies to its host and neighboring communities translate to social equity as defined in the sustainable development framework.
The judges of the forum include two former DENR Undersecretaries and MGB Directors, Mario Luis J. Jacinto and Engr. Jeremias L. Dolino and Metallurgical Engineering Professor of Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, Engr. Ma. Teresa T. Ignacio.
