One of the significant efforts of the Department in instilling the value of stewardship and build a movement towards environmental protection and conservation among people. And the best way to start nurturing these values is among the youth, whose ideologies and outlook in life is not yet corrupted by selfish gain or interest. Which is why the Dalaw-Turo, as a form of Information, Education and Communication strategy have long been adopted by the region because of its encouraging effect to the youth.

Dalaw-Turo is a half-day activity conducted in selected elementary or high schools featuring interactive and fun-filled sessions about the environment and a way of informing and educating them about the Department and its corresponding programs and projects. This has also become an initial activity prior to the formation of the Youth for the Environment Organization (YES-O), a DepEd Order to all primary and secondary schools in both private and public, in partnership with the DENR.

Commencing this year’ DT session in time for the observance of the World Wetlands Day on February 2, was at the Diplahan National High School in Zamboanga Sibugay last February 11 and 12, 2019. Joining the DT Team from the MGB-IX regional office were Information Officer Emma Deverala and Geologist Ian Demetillo, who presented a lecture on Best Mining Practices and Geohazards Awareness, respectively.

Dalaw-Turo had been a regular IEC activity implemented by DENR-IX spearheaded by the Regional Public Affairs in partnership with the designated Information Officers or IEC officers of the different offices/line or staff bureau within the region.
