The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office-DENR (CENRO) - Liloy and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-IX undertook a joint investigation on the alleged illegal small-scale mining/quarrying activity in Tipan, Gutalac, Zamboanga del Norte on October 1, 2020.
 
Following a social media post on September 16, 2020 thru Facebook under one Ana K Tipan account, OIC-CENRO Liloy Dionisio Rago and MGB-IX OIC, RD Hernani Abdon led the investigation to verify the reported illegal activities that has allegedly damaged the shoreline along Brgy. Tipan in Gutalac, ZdN.
 
Based on the spot report submitted by the Team to DENR-IX Regional Executive Director Crisanta Marlene Rodriguez, the issues/concerns raised by the anonymous complainant in the said Facebook post have no factual basis.The report disclosed that there are five cooperatives engaged in small-scale mining/quarrying activities using manual extraction of pebbles only and perform sizing thru improvised manual screening. Contrary to the allegation that these pre-screened pebbles are transported via big vessels, the operators said that the same are transported only thru motorized pump boats with capacity of 140 bags with an estimated weight of 35kgs. per bag.
 
Other allegations of the anonymous complainant have been found to be contradictory to the findings of the investigating team.
