The Sangguniang Panlungsod of the City of Zamboanga, through the Committee on Environment and Natural Resources chaired by the City Councilor of District 2, Hon. Benjamin B. Guningona IV, invited RD Hernani G. Abdon on September 14, 2020, to a public hearing purposely to discuss issues and concerns relative to the operations of Atro Mining Vitali, Inc. (AMVI) in Barangay Vitali, Zamboanga City.
RD Abdon was accompanied by MGB-IX Legal Officer, Atty. Michelle G. Morte and OIC-Chief of the Mine Management Division, Engr. Ramil B. Mundo during said hearing at the Sangguniang Panlungsod to address longstanding issues and concerns re AMVI's operations amidst the City's Environmental Code which explicitly bans mining in the City.
AMVI is an Iron-Ore Project under development stage which was granted with a Mineral Production Sharing Agreement (MPSA) Contract issued by the National Government on June 8, 2007. Its contract/permit area is located within Barangay Vitali, Zamboanga City covering 1,927.3084 hectares and 150 has within the Municipality of Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte.
