The Mines and Geosciences Bureau-IX (MGB-IX) conducted its 3rd Earthquake Drill for this year on September 16, 2021.

The said activity is a response to the invitation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) through the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) for the conduct of 3rd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill with the aim of promoting awareness, preparedness and disaster resiliency specifically in times of ground movement (earthquake).  All member agencies of the NDRRMC were enjoined to participate with strict implementation of health protocols in their respective agencies. The entire program for the day was livestreamed for public viewing in support to the new normal amidst the ongoing global pandemic.

As for MGB-IX, all personnel performed the duck, cover, and hold protocol upon hearing the alarm. Afterwards, all personnel quickly and orderly left the Office building to the muster point (open area parking lot) to gather and wait for further instructions. While the personnel were being accounted for by division, personnel from the Mine Safety and Health Section (MSHS) of the Mine Safety, Environment and Social Development Division (MSESDD) conducted inspection inside the office building to check if there were people left behind. They also performed the standard procedure of checking for possible faulty wirings and presence of wall or floor cracks.  Only after their reports were presented, assessed and evaluated will the Team Leader decide whether it's safe to return inside the office building or not.
