and all at once summer collapsed into fall 2

Pursuant to the Appointment Paper signed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte dated February 8, 2022,  Engr. Hernani G. Abdon took his Oath as Director II before Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Roy A. Cimatu on February 16, 2022.

RD Abdon or “Nani” as he is best known among his colleagues and friends, joined the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Regional Office No. XII in 1999 as Engineer II under the Mine Management Division and rose from the ranks thereon prior to his appointment as OIC, Regional Director of MGB-IX effective March 6, 2020.

Prior to joining the government service, he had worked with private mining companies after passing the Mining Engineering licensure exam in 1998. Among these companies were Banahaw Mining and Development Corporation, Luvimin and Cualing Group of Companies, Manila Mining Corporation and DMCI, where both of his technical and managerial skills were developed.

He finished his primary and secondary education at the Cabarrus Catholic School from 1970 to 1980. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Cebu Institute of Technology in 1988 and took up his Masters in Environmental Planning at the University of Mindanao and graduated in 2002. He is currently enrolled at the St. Columban College in Pagadian City and about to finish his Master in Public Administration.

It is not only by furthering his education that has improved and enhanced his competence, but the series of learning and development interventions and training programs he had attended and actively participated all these years, have greatly contributed in shaping his work ethics. His relentless drive for excellence has led him to introduce innovations that paved the way for the improvement of systems and procedures in the workplace.

All throughout his career in MGB, his current position is a product of hard-work and dedication to his job. As a game-changer, RD Nani have already proven his worth when he bested out seasoned MGB Regional Directors when he was adjudged Best Performing Regional Director for 2020.  Indeed, with his leadership at the forefront, it will not be a surprise if he can maintain and sustain the same recognition wherever he may be assigned.
