In relation to the month-long observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month and in accordance with the approved 2017 Gender and Development (GAD) Plan and Budget of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-IX, the Committee on GAD Information, Education and Communication (IEC) recently conducted a half-day IEC activity on geologic hazards awareness and preparedness in the Municipality of Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur last July 31, 2017.
Women barangay health workers and other women organizations lead the participants with LGU representatives from the barangays and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Council of LGU-Mahayag.
Supervising Geologist Dr. Lawrence Zamoras, PhD., Senior Science Research Specialist Virna Baguio and Atty. Lily Ann Lego were among the speakers who ably discussed about the different geologic hazards, MGB programs and projects and mining-related laws and policies, respectively. Information Officer Emma Deverala facilitated the activity and was assisted by Ms. Bella Manaay, MGB-IX’s Planning Officer.
This fruitful half-day activity was closely coordinated and was assisted with the Municipal Mayor of Mahayag, Hon. Lorna E. Espina, through the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office.
