The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region IX conducted a series of lectures on Environmental Laws in Brgy. Pulangbato, Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur, one of the impact barangays of TVI Resource Development Philippines, Inc.-Balabag Gold-Silver Project (TVIRD) last April 12, 2018. This is in relation to the invitation of TVIRD to conduct Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign particularly on forestry laws since there were reported incidents on the conduct of slash and burn or “kaingin” within the Mineral Production Sharing Agreement area of TVIRD. Personnel from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office-Zamboanga del Sur(PENRO SUR), Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) and Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) conducted the said lecture.

RGAD-TWG Focal Person, Alfredo Camacho, FAD Chief and RGAD-TWG member, Emma Deverala, attended the training on the Enhanced Gender MainstreaIMG 1845 3ming Evaluation Framework (GMEF) last April 2-6, 2018 at the Microtel by Wyndham along UP Technohub in Quezon City.

RGAD-TWG representatives/members from the different MGB regional offices found the results of the exercises facilitated by the resource person as encouraging, amidst the reality that there are still those who lack or do not have gender perspective at all.

The program also included the presentation and submission of 2016 & 2017 GAD Accomplishment Report (AR).

The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) has announced that the 2018 National Women’s Month celebration will have the theme “We Make Change Work For Women.” This month aims to celebrate the achievements of women and girls in various fields and recognize their contributions in our society.

As an annual activity, the City of Zamboanga had once again spearheaded the Marcha de las Mujeres held last Thursday, March 8, 2018 to join the entire nation in celebrating and recognizing women for the 2018 National Women’s Month. MGB-IX GAD advocates joined in the said march wearing purple shirts and buri hats adorned with pink and purple ribbons joining other groups representing various offices from both the government and private sectors, to include NGOs, the academe and the religious sectors.
