The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Central Office (MGB-CO) conducted the 2017 Geoscience Workshop last January 16-21, 2017 at the Lima Park Hotel in Malvar, Batangas. Attended by selected Geosciences Division (GSD) personnel coming from the different MGB regional offices in the country, MGB-IX's participants were in full force, headed by GSD Chief, Jessica N. Lucero and joined by three Supervising Geologists, Dr. Lawrence R. Zamoras, Ph.D. Kristalyn Faye B. Jarical, Paul Asthor D. Yecyec and Senior Geologist, El-Jedidiah O. Villacampa.
Accomplishments for CY 2016 and targets for the year 2017 such as the IEC on Geoshazards, Vulnerability Risk Assessment and Mineral Reservation, among others, were extensively discussed along with all other issues and concerns during the said 5-day event.
Hosting this year's workshop was MGB Region IV-A (CALABARZON) led by Regional Director, RD Samuel Paragas, following the agreement that beginning 2017, the hosting of the workshop shall be rotated each year so that all regional offices will have the opportunity to host the same. Before the workshop ended, it was announced that MGB Region IX will host next year's Geosciences workshop.
