MGBEA-IX CEB Assists GSD Fire Victim Personnel

Six (6) MGB-IX Job Contract employees and one (1) Regular employee of the Geosciences Division (GSD) recently met an appalling incident last January 26, 2017. These young employees who all come from the different parts of Visayas and Mindanao, consequently stay in one place (dormitory) which unfortunately caught fire on Thursday morning. Unknown to these employees while they were doing their regular GSD activities, their dormitory was already on fire, which according to the initial assessment of the Bureau of Fire was due to faulty wirings.
In order to assist said fire victims, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Employees' Association-IX Chapter Executive Board (MGBEA-IX CEB), during its first board meeting yesterday afternoon (January 31), have decided to extend a modest assistance to augment few of their immediate personal needs.
Earlier this afternoon, the MGBEA-IX CEB President Ruth Pana and some officers present, turned over seven (7) sets of beddings and pillows to the victims on top of the financial assistance which the MGBEA-IX CEB was able to collect from the individual contribution of the members/employees as well as other personal monetary and in-kind donation of co-employees.
GSD Personnel Attends 2017 Geoscience Workshop

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Central Office (MGB-CO) conducted the 2017 Geoscience Workshop last January 16-21, 2017 at the Lima Park Hotel in Malvar, Batangas. Attended by selected Geosciences Division (GSD) personnel coming from the different MGB regional offices in the country, MGB-IX's participants were in full force, headed by GSD Chief, Jessica N. Lucero and joined by three Supervising Geologists, Dr. Lawrence R. Zamoras, Ph.D. Kristalyn Faye B. Jarical, Paul Asthor D. Yecyec and Senior Geologist, El-Jedidiah O. Villacampa.
MGB-IX Joins RDRRMC IX's Response Cluster Meeting

Geologist Kris Elvis N. Alferez of the Geosciences Division attended the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council IX meeting (RDDRMC IX – OCD IX) last January 20, 2017 held at the Grand Astoria Hotel, Zamboanga City. The meeting was called for as a “Response Cluster Meeting/Coordinative Meeting for the DRRM Summit”, which was attended by various concerned government agencies like the Department of Education (DEPED), National Information and Communication Agency (NICA), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), National Housing Authority (NHA), Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (PHILVOCS), Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Agency (PAGASA) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

While the Response Cluster Meeting/Coordinative Meeting for the DRRM Summit was on going last January 20, a Team from the Geosciences Division (GSD) composed of Geologist Abbygail B. Soco and Cartographer Benjamin L. Sanaani, was also undertaking simultaneous ocular assessment and documentation within the City to monitor and determine the extent of the effect of geohazards brought about by the continuous raingfall.
