Asec Joan Lagunda Visits MGB-IX

“Expectation versus reality”, was what Asec. Joan A. Lagunda, DENR Assistant Secretary for Field Operations for Mindanao and Legislative Affairs, had emphasized during her interface with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-IX employees on February 12, 2021.
She said that in addressing local politics and other external influences in the implementation of mining laws on the ground, MGB should be mindful of the expectations versus the reality of actual implementation of laws and regulations. She reminded her audience that as a regulating agency, MGB is always expected to strictly implement all existing mining laws and their related policies. However, she also said that there are certain realities that are also needed to be considered to come up with well-thought and balanced decisions that will benefit the greater good.
Abdon Issues First ISAG in 2021

MGB-IX OIC, RD Hernani G. Abdon issued the renewal of the 5-Year Industrial Sand and Gravel Permit (ISAG-P) to Mr. Francisco F. Caragay Jr., today.
The ISAG Permit covering areas within Zamboanga del Sur in Binayan, Municipality of Labangan and Tulungan and Datagan, Pagadian City, is expected to be in operation from 2021-2026.
Mr. Caragay Jr.'s Permit is the first permit issued by Abdon since he assumed post in March of 2020.
Virtual Technical Review

The Mine Management Division hosted a Virtual Technical Review this morning relative to the Tree Cutting Permit Application of Atro Mining Vitali Inc. (AMVI) through Everhydro Corporation.
Presiding during the said meeting was RD Hernani G. Abdon as Chairman of the Mine Rehabilitation Fund Committee. Also in attendance were DENR-IX Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services, Ronald Gadot, Mr. Edwin Castro, Arlene Gaba, representative from CENR-Siocon.
AMVI is an iron-ore mining project in Vitali, Zamboanga City.
RD Abdon Leads MGB-IX to a Promising 2021

Engr. Hernani G. Abdon, OIC-Regional Director of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau-IX (MGB-IX), presided the first General Staff Meeting for CY 2021 held at the Regional Office in Pasonanca, Zamboanga City, on January 7, 2021.
After the welcome message of RD Abdon, Mr. Joemark Bondad, MGB-IX Planning Officer, presented a comprehensive report re the performance status of the region for CY 2020 accomplishments, that indicated a promising and very satisfactory rating amidst the challenges posed by Covid-19 global pandemic. He also presented the work plan and corresponding indicators for CY 2021 to guide both technical and administrative support personnel in accomplishing this year’s set targets.
