The 2nd Quarter Regular Meeting of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC-IX) Committee on Disaster Preparedness was participated in by MGB IX and other offices/agencies via Zoom virtual meeting last June 30, 2020. This meeting was spearheaded by DILG Region IX and where attended by different member agencies.
MGB-IX representative, El-Jedidiah O. Villacampa, Supervising Geologist of the Geosciences Division (GSD), gave updates re the activities being conducted by the GSD such as its active involvement in closely checking weather forecasts as well as closely monitoring PAGASA’s official announcement during onset of the rainy season. He added that MGB-IX maintains and activates its Geohazard Operation Center 9 (Geo-OpCen 9) especially during impending extreme weather disturbance based on PAGASA’s Weather Forecast. Consequently, geohazard advisories are being furnished to LGUs specifically to areas identified as highly susceptible to flood and rain-induced landslide. He further added that as part of MGB's effort to strengthen the capacity of communities and LGUs to improve resiliency in disaster risk reduction and response in the Region, MGB-IX has been conducting Information Education and Communication (IEC) Campaign to assist and guide LGUs on how to maximize the use of the geohazard maps. But with the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic, safety protocol mesureas are being inplaced adapting to the "New Normal" in conducting the said activity.
